Courchevel is in the Tarentaise valley in Savoie and is made up of several villages named after their height in metres: Courchevel 1300 (Le Praz), 1550, 1650 (Moriond) and 1850. Courchevel 1850 is the highest and the best known of them, and it was the first resort in France to be built from scratch rather than around an existing village.
Courchevel is the eastern end of Les Trois Vallées, the same linked ski area as Méribel and Val Thorens.
